How to Copy Songs to Your iPod Without iTunes

While iTunes was designed for syncing media to an iPod, some Windows users find the program's response and synchronization time to be too slow or feel it causes other open PC applications to become sluggish. A variety of companies offer free iPod managers, which allow you to sync your favorite media files to the device without using iTunes. To complete the process, use a third-party program such as SharePod, CopyTrans or PodTrans.

Using SharePod

Step 1

Download and install SharePod on your computer.

Step 2

Launch SharePod and then connect the iPod to the computer.

Step 3

Click the "Copy to iPod" button on the toolbar. Click the "Add Files" button in the Copy to iPod dialog box. Select the songs you want to copy to the device and click "Open."

Step 4

Click "OK" to sync the songs to the iPod.

Using CopyTrans Manager

Step 1

Download and install CopyTrans Manager on your computer.

Step 2

Open CopyTrans Manager and connect the iPod to the PC.

Step 3

Open the folder containing the songs you want to copy to the iPod, such as My Music, and select your preferred songs. Drag the selected tracks to the CopyTrans Manager to sync the songs to the device.

Using PodTrans

Step 1

Download and install the free version of PodTrans on your computer.

Step 2

Launch PodTrans and then connect the iPod to your computer.

Step 3

Click the "Music" button in the navigation pane and then click the "Import" button on the toolbar. Navigate through your folders and select the songs you want to transfer to the iPod. Click "Open" to sync the songs to the device.
